It's no secret that it's my goal to make an income off of blogging and other projects that are of my own creation... The money comes from ad clicks and traffic and traffic comes from "likes" and "Shares"...
"Shares" aren't as easy to come by as you would think... I don't even share my own Mom's blog everyday because sometimes I'm not in the same book as her - let alone on the same page. Just last week I opened up her dashboard to do the morning "editing, formatting and traffic" and upon
After I walked out the back door, lit my ciggy and began fiddling in the plants - my mumbling began .... "Why do Christians get sick? For the same damn reason everybody else gets sick.. If I open that thing up and it says anything different, I just have to sit today out... Pssh ... Why do Christians get sick... for the love of Peter, Paul and Mary..."
Anywho, so I settled myself down and came back in to sit down and see "Why Christians Get Sick" and low and behold my mother said the same thing I did, except for saying "damn" she said "Dog gone" or some other pristine little colloquialism... So everything was fine... She and I definitely didn't receive the same "model" of "mouth" or "vocabulary that comes out of it", if you will when they were being handed out...
So I told you all of that to tell you this... Shares are not easy to get because you have to be SO very on target with what is being said
to take that effort (because we've become a lazy society) to click that button and then think about whether you want to make a comment with it - and then you have to think of something clever to say and THEN you have to push the other button to "Yes post it" ... and it's like, "OOOOh my God! That's so much effort... was it really that profound after all? Maybe not ... maybe it was... I'll find it later if necessary..." and off that article goes into the abyss of the interwebs to possibly be found ... or possibly not ...
Sometimes something different happens though... Sometimes a story, blog post, article, video, etc, etc, etc invokes SO much passion, amazement, interest and overwhelmment in it's reader that before they've even considered it they've facebooked it, tweeted it, stumbled it, pin'd it, tumblrd it, dugg it, redditt'd it, etc, etc, etc ...
That happened here in our region last week...
A satirical news agency posted an article stating that 17 bodies had been pulled from the Ohio River... Right here in the Heartland, one can imagine how that spread...
Well, Facebookers were on it like white on rice on a paper plate in a snow storm... As I started to catch wind of this I was amazed... If this is so it might be nearly unprecedented as far as "dump sites" go ... I walked in the door and went straight for the computer to get the lowdown...
1. I googled "17 bodies" and had one recent result jump out at me - it was the aforementioned article... I opened it in a new tab so I could read IT after googling a couple more things...
2. I googled "bodies" "Ohio River" with and without "Henderson" (the name of the town) and found nothing ... except for the aforementioned article...
3. I realized that something was certainly askew if the only news agency picking this up was the Examiner, which I had actually never heard of before ... thusly causing me to read the article and note more extreme oddities ... which caused me to do "number 4"...
4. I went to the about page for the website that had posted the article and learned within the first paragraph that this was a satirical news site.
5. I posted it to my page like so to draw attention to the fact that it was a satirical post ...
Kim Comer Jackson shared a link.
FALSE HEADLINE - FYI - This headline ---> "At least 17 Bodies Found In Ohio River Near Henderson, Kentucky" is not true... EmpireNews.net is a satire site ... though I don't see a reason to be "satirical" about corpses... Aaaanywho, Evansville news reports a leg found in the Ohio on Friday ... just the one leg, likely belonging to a man and nothing has been found since ... For more info, GOOGLE
I consider what you read above the 5 things to do before you completely freak out when reading a news story....
So what about 140,000 shares? Evan called this morning and said that WPSD had stated that the "17 Dead Bodies" article got 140,000 shares...
That left him saying, "Go write something and get 140,000 shares" and left me wondering how many page views 140,000 shares equates to...
