Sweet Fancy Fritters, folks ... I was thrilled to wake closer to my "usual time" this morning. My sleep has been seriously out of whack and my preference is to wake in the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes I've been up for two hours and as the Facebook feed rolls by in my peripherals, I'll see something like, "Oh my God this is
Anywho, it was my intention to begin a chat on the mind blowing topic of dating today. I realize this is quite a shock and some of you may need time to compose yourselves unless you were rattling around on Facebook yesterday afternoon just after I logged in to look at the "options" for relationshipdom - F.Y.I.. they do not have "agnostic" or "I'M complicated". I may cocoon myself tonight and write about that, but I saw something this morning that completely freaked me out - for lack of a more flowery exclamation - and I felt I needed to bring it to your attention. You ... each and every one of you ... and if you share it with your friends, each and every one of them ... and so on ...
I had the Today Show on this morning as I often do when I'm getting my day underway and I heard a phrase that "caught my ear" as new... "modern sporting rifles". I googled right away to make sure I was hearing what I thought I was hearing.... and yup - Bob's your Uncle ... An Assault Weapon...
Evidently though new to me, this is not a new term... and 'supposedly' this isn't an assault weapon by definition because the trigger must be pulled to fire each round. As I've begun to read into this and discuss it with folks in the last few days - I have learned that some of these guns "look" like guns that 'go rat-a-tat-tat-tat-etc-etc-etc', but do not actually 'go rat-a-tat-tat-tat-etc-etc-etc' I intend to learn more about them, but I don't think any of us would be surprised if I saw something shiny and frolicked off in another direction before coming back to it.
As we all know by now, I'm gung-ho for our right to arms. I find some grey area on the "carry and conceal" law (which I'll come back to later) and I truly feel there is absolutely no reasonable cause whatsoever for "the average joe" to have an assault weapon - even if it's called a "modern sporting rifle".
If we really want to solve the problem though, we must look at the absolute single common factor among mass killings no matter, when or where they occurred and with what type of firearm...
and that is mental illness.
