It's Like Buying an Ice Cream Freezer if You're Lactose Intolerant...

This was my updated Facebook status a few days ago around 2:30 in the afternoon. Incidentally, they also do not have "Agnostic" as a choice - although I plan to see if I can 'write it in' later...

Those of you who know me know that I have been in no way, shape, form or fashion on the hunt for a mate, companion, boyfriend, fiance, spouse or any form of any of that mess ...

I occasionally go on dates.  I prefer to meet the gent out somewhere .. this is evidently

something that comes from the 'control disorder' I picked up amidst the segway into the era of my life I'm currently in.

Anywho... I'm likely to meet a fellow out for a bit of dinner and chatting and then totally disappear for ... like ... weeks ... or months ... yes, sometimes even years ... it's not something I intentionally do, I suppose it's some sort of defense mechanism ...

I have a very firm belief on dating - for myself, anyway - It's like buying an ice cream freezer if you're lactose intolerant.  Yes kids, you heard me... I've "been married", so it's not on my "list" to "get married".  I'm extraordinarily selfish with my time and busy with my own projects, so it's not like I'm out pounding the pavement to find a mate who will most likely fragment my time even more.  These two factors alone keep dating pretty much completely off the radar for me.

The Absolute Single Common Factor of Mass Killings ... and "Modern Sporting Rifles" My Foot!

Sweet Fancy Fritters, folks ... I was thrilled to wake closer to my "usual time" this morning.  My sleep has been seriously out of whack and my preference is to wake in the wee hours of the morning.  Sometimes I've been up for two hours and as the Facebook feed rolls by in my peripherals, I'll see something like, "Oh my God this is

horrible!!! Why did I wake so early?!" Except that it usually says "wake up", because let's face it ... many people in this neck of the woods do NOT know how to use prepositions... I on the other hand delight in waking early.  I like to combobulate myself before dealing with others.

Anywho, it was my intention to begin a chat on the mind blowing topic of dating today.  I realize this is quite a shock and some of you may need time to compose yourselves unless you were rattling around on Facebook yesterday afternoon just after I logged in to look at the "options" for relationshipdom - F.Y.I.. they do not have "agnostic" or "I'M complicated".  I may cocoon myself tonight and write about that, but I saw something this morning that completely freaked me out - for lack of a more flowery exclamation - and I felt I needed to bring it to your attention.  You ... each and every one of you ... and if you share it with your friends, each and every one of them ... and so on ...

I had the Today Show on this morning as I often do when I'm getting my day underway and I heard a phrase that "caught my ear" as new... "modern sporting rifles".  I googled right away to make sure I was hearing what I thought I was hearing.... and yup - Bob's your Uncle ... An Assault Weapon...

If Assault Is Illegal, Why Are Assault Weapons Not?

*originally published on 12/17/12*

I have no problem with guns.  I was raised in a house with guns.  When I was of a

reasonable age in the eyes of good old DaddyO (who was then probably in his late 40s), he took me out back, gave me a briefer, pointed me towards a target shaped like a man and my lesson began.

He gave me quite a talking to about safety and taking care of myself in this jacked up world.  He told me that someday I'd have my own place and "Guns'll save your life if you ain't afraid to use 'em.  You hesitate and somebody'll take that thang away and use it on you.."

This was the same conversation I had heard whispers of in the very early 80s after my grandpa, Barney had passed away.  Grandma was nervous having never lived alone and wanted a hand gun.  In that case, Dad was the final say and he deemed that grandma was safer without a gun than with one.

I clearly recall the first night I was in my own home alone as a new bride with a potential intruder on the front patio.  It occurred to me right away that for the first time in my life I was in a house without a gun and might possibly need one.  I was clever enough to
